We are currently partnered with an International Specialist Consultancy, Engineering, and Advisory firm, with offices across the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Singapore, as they look to add a Technical Director of Fire Engineering to their division in London.
Their areas of expertise are represented in five core verticals: Planning, Design & Engineering, Masterplanning & Infrastructure, Asset Management and Transaction Support.
They pride themselves on being leaders in the industry in each of the services that they offer. They have one of the largest dedicated team with decades of cumulative experience in sustainable design, fire and life safety, façade engineering, commissioning, building performance, waste management, environmental consultancy, carbon management and acoustics.
Job Description:
Due to the continuing success and growth of their UK team, the consultancy is seeking a Technical Director - Fire Engineering to support the growing Fire & Life Safety division and work alongside their other specialist disciplines. The role will be to support the successful delivery of UK and international projects, working with project team Design Engineers and Senior Consultants throughout all project phases, whilst also including independent project management of complex design and construction projects, covering all aspects of Fire Engineering.
As Technical Director, you will be the last line of defence for their PI, particularly by way of conducting drawing reviews, with current code punctiliousness/precision. You will also be responsible for mentoring graduate and intermediate members of the team.
At this level of employment, you need to be on top of a constantly changing legislative landscape, ensuring internal technical acumen is always raised by your own personal standards.
This role requires you to be an experienced leader with high levels of design experience in fire engineering whilst also including ability across strategy writing and project delivery to their clients.

Job Purpose:
- Facilitate growth of the consultancy's Fire division across London and the wider UK market, whilst leveraging the internal brand to strengthen their presence in the international fire markets.
- Leading fire design service line, managing team of designers and engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead business development activities to achieve revenue targets for the fire division.
- Independently manage complex projects with multifaceted technical scope and stakeholder management both internally and externally.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal / people management, and mentoring skills to support senior leadership in building the regional team, reviewing staff performance, coaching, mentoring employees, driving training initiatives and continuous technical improvement in the division.
- Development of fire management strategies and business growth.
Essential Skills:
- BEng/BSc in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
- BSc or MSc in Fire Engineering preferred.
- Minimum of 8 (eight) years experience across fire engineering
- Minimum of 4+ (four) years experience in a client facing role.
- Demonstratable network and experience in winning work across major built environment projects.
- Demonstratable experience in leading and facilitating the growth of design teams.
- UK experience with international experience preferred.
- Excellent technical knowledge in Fire Safety / Engineering within Residential, Commercial and Hotels sectors.
- A thorough understanding of Fire Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
- Ability to deliver & control project delivery, within time and budget.
