Transport Planning Technician / Engineer
Location: Bristol, Cheltenham or Bedford | Hybrid working model
We are currently working with a Transport & Environmental consultancy to identify a Transport Planning Technician to support ongoing growth in their infrastructure team.
This role is ideal for someone with a background in designing highway and transport planning schemes using AutoCAD and is looking to further their career in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Transport Planning Technician Role Overview:
As a valued member of the Transport Planning team, you'll contribute to the preparation of highway and access designs to support planning applications for residential and commercial developments. Your work will range from the concept stage through to detailed design, with a strong focus on access strategies, junction layouts, and active travel infrastructure.
Transport Planning Technician Key Responsibilities:- Prepare concept highway designs and active travel route layouts
- Contribute to highway improvement scheme designs
- Develop 2D layouts for highways and junctions (priority, roundabouts, signals) in line with MfS and DMRB standards
- Conduct vehicle tracking assessments and review site layouts
- Assist in access strategy development for strategic residential and commercial sites
- Participate in the administrative aspects of projects, maintaining key documentation
- Support with occasional site visits and existing condition assessments
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Transport Planning Technician Key Requirements:
- Proven experience with UK-based concept highway design
- Solid understanding of MfS, DMRB, and LTN 1/20 guidance
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Vehicle Tracking (or equivalent software)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Methodical approach to planning, organising, and delivering design work
